Your profile and how to edit it, then Settings section by section: appearance, the AI writing assistant, reading, security, and leaving.

Your profile

Account ▸ your name

Your profile is your public face on the site. Edit profile, under your name, changes:

    Photo. Change or remove it from the picture itself.

    Name and handle. The handle is your address: /u?u=your-handle.

    Bio. A web address in it becomes a link. [label](https://…) gives the link words of its own: this one reads my notebook.

    Public profile and private activity. Public is on by default; clear it and your profile answers nobody but you. The second lets your writing calendar count private writing too, as counts only, never content.
Edit profile, under your name on your profile.

Share, beside it, copies your profile's link, posts it to X, LinkedIn or YouTube Community, or shows a QR code you can download for a card, a slide or a book.

The code is made in your browser and holds only your profile's address. It is always dark on light, whatever your theme, because some phone cameras cannot read the reverse. This one is real: it opens /u?u=your-handle.

Account

The address you signed in with, your profile's link to copy, and a place to change your password. At its foot, set apart: changing the email address you sign in with, which asks for your password and takes effect only once you confirm the link sent to the new address, and deleting your account.

Theme
Four colour themes, applied across the whole site: Lqiia Scarce (dark), Soulish White (light), Haze Warmth and Harbor Dusk.
Size
Scales everything at once — text, icons, logos and pictures. Reset goes back to the default.

Writing: the AI assistant

Branchspace can ask an AI to review a note: Claude for grammar, sources and doubtful claims; ChatGPT, for now, for grammar and style. The AI Review tab in its right pane runs a review when you ask, never on its own. It suggests; it never changes your writing.

It is optional, and you bring your own key: an Anthropic key for Claude, an OpenAI key for ChatGPT, or both. Paste it here. The key is kept encrypted, and your provider bills you directly for what you use. Branch Press never charges for it.

Claude reviews grammar, suggests sources for claims that need one, and flags claims that look doubtful. ChatGPT, for now, reviews grammar and style. Each suggestion is advice to read; nothing in the note changes unless you change it.

Reading

Following
Whether you hear about every public note or only essays from writers you follow, and whether your own journals reach your followers.
People you have hidden
Everyone whose comments you hid or whom you blocked, in one list, to undo.
Saved categories
Your shelves for saved essays: add, rename or delete one. Deleting a shelf removes only that shelf; the essays stay saved anywhere else you put them.

Security

Sign out
On this device.
Active sessions
Where you are signed in, from what the browser reports — not your exact location.
Other sessions
Terminate all other sessions signs you out everywhere except here. Use it if you signed in somewhere you no longer trust.
Two-factor
Adds a code from an authenticator app (Google Authenticator, Authy, 1Password) as a second step at sign-in. Keep the recovery codes it gives you somewhere safe.

Terminate all other sessions

Each line is a place you are signed in, named from what its browser reports. Sign out on a line ends that one; Terminate all other sessions ends every one but this.

    Ten of them, shown once. Put them in a password manager or on paper.
Turning on two-factor. From then on, signing in asks for your password and then a code from the app.

A recovery code is not a sign-in code. Each works once, if you lose the app: using one removes two-factor from your account so that you can sign in and set it up again. Regenerate recovery codes makes a fresh set, and the old ones stop working.

Every account starts free, with the whole of Branchspace. Some things carry an allowance on the free plan, such as one board and three album photographs. A paid plan lifts those allowances and shows a small badge beside your name. See /pricing for what each plan includes.

Telling us what is wrong

Your profile ▸ Private ▸ Report

If something breaks, says something untrue, or could simply be better, say so. There are three ways in: Report, under Private in the menu on the left of your profile; Report a problem or suggest an idea in Branchspace's Ctrl P commands; and the line at the foot of every guide.

Choose Something's wrong or An idea, write it in your own words, and send. The page you came from, your browser, your screen size and your theme go with it, so a problem can be found again. The form lists them before you send. Your email goes with it only if you tick You may reply to me by email. Only the founder reads reports.

Leaving

Take your writing first

Your writing is yours: any note can be taken out as Markdown or a Word file, or printed, from its menu in Branchspace. Do that first.

Delete account, at the foot of Settings ▸ Account, permanently deletes your account and everything in it: private notes, spaces, reading list, highlights, reading history, public profile and photo. You type DELETE to confirm, and it cannot be undone.
